The Simple Trick to Improve Your Vision Board Right Now (Hint: It’s Science, Not Just Magic)

We’ve all been there, Sis. You spend a Saturday afternoon surrounded by a mountain of magazines, glitter, and glue sticks. You find that perfect photo of a beachfront villa, a sleek new car, or a glowing, healthy version of yourself. You pin it to your board, hang it on your wall, and wait for the "universe" to deliver the goods.

But then, weeks turn into months, and that vision board starts to feel more like a wall of "things I don't have" rather than a roadmap for where you're going. You start to wonder: Is this even working, or am I just making a high-end collage?

Here’s the truth: Vision boards aren’t magic. They aren't a spiritual vending machine where you put in a picture and get a prize. However, they are incredibly powerful neuroscientific tools: if you know how to use them.

Today, I want to share the simple, science-backed trick that will take your board from a "wish list" to a "power plant" for your brain. It’s time to stop wishing and start wiring your mind for the life you deserve.

Meet Your Brain’s Personal Assistant: The RAS

Before we dive into the trick, we have to talk about the biology behind the beauty. Deep inside your brain sits a tiny bundle of nerves called the Reticular Activating System (RAS).

Think of your RAS as the ultimate gatekeeper or a high-tech filter. Every single second, your brain is bombarded with millions of bits of information. If you tried to process all of it, you’d be overwhelmed in an instant. Your RAS decides what gets through and what gets ignored.

Ever bought a specific car and suddenly noticed that everyone is driving that same car? That’s your RAS at work. You "value-tagged" that car as important, so your brain started flagging it every time it appeared in your field of vision.

A vision board is essentially a training manual for your RAS. By looking at it daily, you’re telling your brain, "This is important. Filter the world to find me opportunities that match these images."

The "Simple Trick": Process vs. Outcome

Most people make one fatal mistake: they only visualize the outcome. They see the trophy, the bank balance, or the clear skin.

While the outcome is your destination, your brain is a lot more responsive to the journey. This is the secret trick: You must visualize the process, not just the result.

In a famous study, researchers found that students who visualized themselves studying for an exam (the process) performed significantly better than those who only visualized themselves getting an A (the outcome).

How to apply this to your board right now:

Look at your current board. For every "outcome" image, I want you to add a "process" cue.

  • Outcome: A photo of a toned, healthy body.
  • Process: A small sticky note that says "30-minute morning walk" or a photo of your favorite hiking sneakers.
  • Outcome: A photo of a successful business.
  • Process: A photo of your desk with your 2026 Self-Awareness Planner open, ready for action.

By adding the how to the what, you are creating a neural map that your brain can actually follow. You’re moving from "I want this" to "I am doing this."

The Power of "If-Then" Planning

To really supercharge your RAS, we need to use something psychologists call Implementation Intentions. These are simple "If-Then" statements that link a situational cue to a specific action.

When you add "If-Then" statements to your vision board, you are pre-loading your brain to make the right choice when the time comes. This reduces decision fatigue and builds consistency, which is the heartbeat of any transformation.

  1. If it is 7:00 AM on a Tuesday, then I will spend 15 minutes journaling in my Crowned in Self coaching manual.
  2. If I feel the urge to scroll mindlessly on my phone, then I will take three deep breaths and drink a glass of water.
  3. If I am grocery shopping, then I will choose three new colorful vegetables to nourish my body.

These tiny sentences turn your board into a living, breathing action plan. They bridge the gap between your spiritual grounding and your daily urban reality.

Mental Contrasting: Being Real About Obstacles

I know, I know. We love the "good vibes only" lifestyle. But science tells us that ignoring potential obstacles actually makes us less likely to succeed. This is called Mental Contrasting.

True empowerment isn't just about dreaming; it's about being prepared. Your vision board should reflect your resilience.

Think about one thing that usually stops you from reaching your goals. Is it stress? Is it a lack of time? Is it that "not enough" voice in your head?

Write down a coping strategy and put it on your board. If your goal is spiritual grounding, but you know your job is stressful, add a reminder to use your Urban Wellness techniques when things get hectic. When you acknowledge the hurdle and decide how to jump over it in advance, you become unstoppable.

Why Self-Awareness is the Foundation

You can have the most scientifically optimized vision board in the world, but if it isn't rooted in your authentic self, it won't stick. Many of us are building boards based on what we think we should want, rather than what our soul is actually crying out for.

This is why our Crowned in Self coaching program is so vital. Before you glue down that next image, you need to know who you are at your core. Emotional healing and trauma recovery aren't just "side projects": they are the soil that allows your visions to grow.

When you do the inner work, your vision board becomes a reflection of your true identity, not just a collection of society's expectations.

Step-by-Step: Updating Your Board Today

If you're ready to give your board a scientific facelift, here is your quick-start checklist:

  • Review Your Images: Are they all "outcomes"? Swap at least three of them for "process" photos.
  • Add "If-Then" Notes: Use small, colorful sticky notes to add three specific behavioral cues to your most important goals.
  • Find a High-Traffic Spot: Place your board where you actually see it during your most active hours (not just when you’re going to sleep).
  • The 3-Minute Ritual: Every morning, spend three minutes looking at one "process" image. Close your eyes and visualize yourself actually doing the work. Feel the texture of the keyboard, the smell of the air during your walk, the taste of your healthy meal.
  • Keep it Fresh: If an image no longer resonates, take it off! Your board is a living document, not a museum piece.

The Bottom Line

Vision boards work because they train your brain’s Reticular Activating System (RAS) to focus on what matters. To make yours effective, move beyond "wishful thinking" by visualizing the process, adding If-Then plans, and acknowledging potential obstacles. When science meets spirit, transformation isn't just possible( it’s inevitable.)
